Pruning the Tree

Like our roses to make them grow they need some pruning and maintenance.

I've made my tree private for now and I feel I've solved some big mysteries on the tree including Michael Connolly who is an uncle who was sent to Norfolk Island. I read an eye opening account of his "unnatural act" and for now I think I'll just go visit some of my original ancestors and see what the expanding world of the internet throws my way.

I've never really printed any of my sources or catalogued them properly so now is the time. I feel comfortable with some of the trees I've been making as well trying to see if cousins etc throw out interesting information. I'll need to graft them onto my family tree once I've pruned my original tree.

Now the big question is where to begin. I think with a cup of tea...

Sarah Weatherstone Part 1 From Birth to Departure

Sarah Age 18, based on Convict Indent descriptions  When I was handed some family history papers on our Lang family, each person's background information took about a page. Sarah Weatherstone's entire life was written in 2 sentences. It seemed little was available on her in 2004, yet 10 years later she is the ancestor in my family tree that I know most about. I don't think I would have liked her, but then again she grew up in tough times and perhaps things would have been different for Sarah if she'd been born in a different place and time.  My research is ongoing and already new information has come to light and had me spending a few nights editing this post and Part 2.  Part 3 is being written, but the research is taking longer, because it's once she reaches Australia that we really do find out a lot about Sarah! Michael Cotter - The Details

I belong to the Cotter Clan. The last surviving male from my branch recently told me "you're definitely a Cotter". I never realised how much interest or information there was out there about my Cotter family. A great deal of the information carefully checked over and redistributed by one amazing Daffyd Cotter. The following profile is mostly put together with information supplied by Daffyd. As I have time I will include some of the stories I've learnt about Michael, including his time as a convict, the time he spent in goal, his family, being held up by bushrangers, and his death. 1809 or 1812 - born in or around Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland - (Father was James) 20th May 1830 - stole a sheep from a William Hennessy. Occupation listed as Ploughman & Reaper 21st May 1830 - arrested in Rathcormac with the stolen sheep 17th August 1830 - tried and found guilty for theft sometime between August and November 1830 - sentenced to seven years transportation to N.S.W.
